COURSE STRUCTURE- LENGTH and DIVISIONS and DATES

USU's term calendar should be kept in mind when creating courses:

  • Semesters: USU is a semester-based university. There are three semesters: Fall, Spring, and Summer. Each semester is 16 weeks. Between Spring/Summer and Summer/Fall, there is a one-week break for students. Between Fall/Spring, the break may be longer. Check the academic calendar page of the website for specific dates.
  • Sessions: Each semester is divided into two 8-week sessions.
  • Weekly Structure:
    • USU's academic week begins on Tuesday morning (12:00 am) and ends on Monday night (11:59 pm, Pacific time).
    • Courses are structured as 8-weekly modules matching the 8 weeks of a session.
    • Due dates are student-centered: all final weekly assignments are due at the end-of-day Monday of the particular module.
