5-2 USU Online Classroom Resources

5.2a Resources for Faculty

Faculty Orientations
Because orientation to the University’s community and the University’s teaching environment is considered essential for instructional coherence and continuity, the University offers an orientation program that provides a comprehensive overview of policies, procedures, teaching strategies, D2L/Brightspace skills, and resources related to teaching and working at USU. In addition, College and University administrators often provide more specific orientation concerning academic programs.

The USU Faculty Orientation supports Faculty Teaching Performance expectations in the LMS, and support is provided by course mentoring and by supervisory faculty and academic support services.

Faculty Support Manager
Faculty may contact the Faculty Support Manager for assistance with USU technology onboarding and training, course assignments, textbooks, payroll, and general support.
Integrated LMS Tools

Several third-party tools are integrated with the D2L/Brightspace classrooms, including Turnitin (plagiarism checking), YouSeeU (virtual meetings), EvaluationKit (end-of-course surveys), and integrated labs for specific courses.

In-Course Resources for Faculty (Instructor-Only Resources tab)
Additional items are available in the Instructor Only Resources tab in each online course, including beginning and end of course checklists, faculty guidelines, plagiarism-checking, and web conferencing job aides, links to early alert and other forms and end-of-course survey results, and the Course Guide for the course through which faculty can read notes on the course and communicate potential issues or improvements to course content.

USU Library
Faculty may contact the USU Librarian for assistance with classroom resources and information literacy training for students.
5.2 b Resources for Students

Tutoring
Online tutoring through Brainfuse is available electronically to students in their online courses. Tutoring services include a Writing Lab, live Tutoring, study guides, study rooms, and more. Faculty are also able to create and track tutoring tasks for students with Brainfuse.
For more information about Brainfuse Tutoring, check out the Brainfuse Tutoring tab in your Online Classroom. More detail is provided in the Faculty Orientation.

Disability Services
If a student requests accommodations for a disability, the faculty should direct the student to the Disability Coordinator. Students should work with the Disability Coordinator and provide the necessary documentation to the Disability Coordinator to support the student request. The Disability Coordinator will give the student a letter detailing the accommodations approved and any steps the faculty should take. More information can be found in the Catalog under Rehabilitation Act and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). (add link)
Faculty should not solicit ADA information from students.
Information regarding disability services is available to students in the Syllabus tab in the online classroom.

Student Services
Students go through an LMS Orientation with a New Student Advisor before their first class. Faculty should refer students to their Academic Advisor for tech support, success skills, registration, and USU systems assistance.

USU Library
Students may contact the USU Librarians directly through email and/or explore the research resources available through the Library Corner online classroom in which they are enrolled. Contact information is available in the Library Corner.

Additional In-Course Resources for Students (USU Learner Support tab) Additional items are available in the USU Learner Support tab in each online course, including links to IT and student services, APA or Chicago paper templates, user guides for the Brainfuse tutoring service and Turnitin, and links to Office 365 and Grammarly.
