Academic Dishonesty
USU adheres to a strict policy regarding cheating and plagiarism. These acts of academic dishonesty will not be tolerated in this program. Review the Student Code of Conduct and become familiar with the policy and what constitutes cheating and plagiarism.
Plagiarism is a specific form of cheating that consists of the misuse of the published and/or unpublished works of others by misrepresenting the material (i.e., their intellectual property) so used as one’s own work. Examples of plagiarism include but are not limited to:
- Using sources verbatim or paraphrasing without giving proper attribution (this can include phrases, sentences, paragraphs, and/or pages of work)
- Copying and pasting work from an online or offline source directly and calling it your own
- Using information from an online or offline source without crediting the author; and Submitting work you completed for one class to another class.
- Substituting synonyms into another author's sentence structure while presenting the result as original work
By enrolling in the credential program, students consent to have their assignments be subject to submission for textual similarity review to designated sites for the detection of plagiarism. All submitted papers will be included as source documents in the reference database solely for the purpose of detecting plagiarism of such papers. Students may submit their papers in such a way that no identifying information about them is included.
