Policy: USU supports faculty development. Full-Time Faculty must participate in at least one professional development activity per academic year. Activities include, but are not limited to, scholarly work, conference attendance, conference presentations, continuing education courses, and obtaining advanced degrees. Additional evidence of professional development may be required or requested from the College Dean to meet specialty, licensing, or accreditation standards.

Adjunct Faculty are encouraged to participate in at least one professional development activity per academic year.

Purpose: The purpose of this policy is to outline professional development requirements for Full Time Faculty. Professional development is a faculty responsibility that is part of the faculty role.

Procedure:

  1. If a Full Time Faculty wishes to seek reimbursement for a professional development activity:
    1. Identify activity
    2. Receive approval from Dean
    3. Submit proof of completion and appropriate receipts to their Dean or designee.
  2. Professional development activities are submitted with the annual review.

Scope: This policy applies to all USU Faculty.
