Policy: The objective of the United States University's (USU) Student Mentorship Program is to provide services to its online and on ground students to support their personal and professional development in meaningful ways. The Student Mentorship program will empower student/alumni mentors to utilize their degree to maximize their professional learning opportunities and assist in increasing participating students' ability to be successful in their professional and personal lives.

The Student Mentorship Program helps participants to achieve academic success by enhancing their university experience through positive mentor-mentee relationships in an online environment. This facilitates the mentor-mentee relationships through regular communication, accountability, and discovering new study skills or academic habits. 

Expectation from Program:

  • May be referred or connect to other academic and social resources.
  • Enhancement of academic success skills.
  • Assist with the academic and social transition to an online learning environment.
  • Discuss, set, and work towards accomplish educational goals.
  • Meet consistently with your mentor both one-to-one setting.
  • Maintain professional integrity, privacy, respect, and sensitivity in mentoring.

Criteria for Student Mentors

All Student/Alumni Mentors must meet the following criteria:

  • Must have a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.25.
  • Active mentor applicants must have completed at least half way through their program of study.
  • Alumni applicants must have completed their program within three (3) years.
  • Mentors must possess strong communication skills, a positive attitude, patience, empathy, and a sincere desire to assist their peers succeed. 
  • Commitment to dedicate time to  their peers (through the end of the peers program).
  • All other items listed in the Job Description.

All student mentors will be available virtually via the Learning Management System (LMS). 

Purpose: The purpose of this policy is to improve student persistence, retention, and graduation/completion rates, student satisfaction and employability among its student body. 

Scope: This policy applies to all active and alumni students of the University that wish to participate in the mentorship program.
